Belt and Brookville Roads

January 29, 2022 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: mid 20s, and a cold wind from the northwest

Comments:
Drove?! to meet Matt S at the Dancing Crab. Jon Ettinger ran from his home to meet us there. Set off from the old toll booth at Dunkin and ran into teh cold wind up Belt, through Chevy Chase Circle, out Brookville to meet the long sought goal of running the length of those possibly once connected farm roads. There was some bushwhacking through the snow alongside Rock Creek from Jones Mill to the new Purple Line Bridge. The corduroy road bridge spanned only half the creek, so we (I) crawled up the embankment and ran out the purple line right of way to Jones Mill and worked our way around and up into the County maintenance complex, getting onto that final portion of Brookville Road and taking into the wind again until it died in a park in outer Silver Spring. Doubled back at 49 minutes and ran with fewer stops back to Meadowbrook and Candy Cane Park before parting ways with the boys. Somewhere in the there I'd stopped my watch and I either need to dd 5 minutes or 15 minutes to my time of 1:23. I'm opting to only add 5 min. Headed up the hills and wound my way to Brookville and past home to retrieve the car in Tenley. Last mile was around 7:35 to Dominoes. Felt like a long run and other than the portions in the woods, we were likely sub 8 for most and maybe as quick as 7:30 here and there? Left knee was nice and achy by the end and afterwards. The pace felt at times like I was straining a bit, but all in all, I was fine... just not fresh. Into the wind, wearing shorts sometimes left my face chilled, but all in all, it was fine... just a cold day and the salt on all the roads is more of an issue than the cold. Glad to have made myself run this. Mustang and Jet continued down Beach and were both looking for around 18, which I suspect they acheived.
