Nate Suter emailed yesterday to tell me he had come to town for the weekend. I drove to 511 Decatur St in Petworth to meet him at 8am at his airB&B. We headed west and entered the park on Piney Branch, headed up the bike path, and came out on Blagden and Upshur. Despite only having seen/spoken to Nate less than half a dozen times since graduation in 1995, conversation flowed easily. The bonds a person can make running 11 seasons and thousands of miles with someone just don't fade. It is incredible. Pace was controlled and we paused for three 30 second walking breaks. 4.7 miles, probably at 9:30 pace -although his watch didn't stop when we walked or stood. Still, he's in good shape despite achilles issues and coaches 75 middle schoolers in Montpellier when not being a consultant. A nice run and great to catch up with the possessor of the cup on a stick.
