Woke up before 7 out of habit and drove to meet Jen Maranzano in front of Baked and Wired at 8am to join her for the final 9.2 miles of her 13 mile run. A bit intimidated by the dozen+ 20 somethings who clearly can run faster than me and all appear to be legit adult runners. We took K St to the Crescent and turned on the bridge in Dalecarlia. (There was also a tiny 2 minutes of doubling back to intercept a different group. Only spoke with two people who weren't Dan or Jen, but still enjoyed the experience enough to want to go back from time to time. Pace started mellow enough and built naturally over the first mile or two. Eventually (after a bathroom pause at Fletcher's) Jen and I were leading the group and chatting easily. We also extended beyond some by an extra half mile and convinced a few others to go with us. On the return trip south, Jen and I were chopping our strides for a bit and eventually went around our companions for the last two miles. My legs and feet felt like they were getting a moderately long run, but the cardio was totally fine and the run never felt taxing. Drove from Georgetown to AU track to cheer, time, and support Zeke as he ran a gutsy 4:59.5 English Mile to extend his years under 5 streak to 10. Took a couple one minute jogs and good stretches while there and threw in 25 push ups to keep warm. Pace might have started in the upper 7s, but most of the splits I was getting both going north and south ranged from 7:00 to 7:30 pace, and Jen said we averaged around 7:15.
