Broad St. Race

May 2, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Incredibly hot - 80's, 90's later on in the day after running

Comments:
Tommy was down here to watch since he couldn't run. It was horrendous weather though as both Saturday and Sunday were in the 90's and muggy. Everyone that ran the race was well behind their PR's (one of my friends finished 20 minutes behind his normal times). I started off the race with Holly and a friend. Holly is still feeling the effects of her knee injury from the Chicago Marathon, but she's able to run about 20-25 miles a week now, but little to no speed work. So, running with her for the first couple miles was a good warmup (7:45-8 minute pace) and then I picked it up. They had opened up a bunch of fire hydrants, which was awesome since it was cold water. They also had extra water stops, which was nice. I brought a Gatorade with me, which went up nose twice (not fun!), but everytime I really tried to kick it into high gear, I overheated and slowed back down, but ended up with a satisfactory time. It was awesome that there were still a ton of spectators out there given the weather, it definitely kicked me into high gear each time there was a big crowd or a band. With San Diego being a RnR marathon, I'm looking forward to having the bands at every mile marker...
